MESSENGERS OF THE GODS

The Pigeon was once held in high esteem by royalty and the gentry alike. Along with Ravens, Swallows and Falcons, the Pigeon was trained to send messages between cities, specialising in long distances up to 1800 miles away!

In battle, pigeons had to endure the dangers of being intercepted and killed. Pigeons were treated well and bred to be the fastest of the winged messengers – until telecommunications were first established in the 1800's and telephones reduced the need for pigeons as messengers of secret information shortly after the Second World War.

Pigeons were noted heros of WW1 & WW2, saving thousands of lives. Below are a few of those honoured:

Cher Ami – Delivered 12 important messages in World War I, completing her final mission despite being shot. She saved 200 men by getting their desperate message through.

GI Joe – Flew 20 miles in 20 minutes to deliver a message that prevented an Allied bombing of an Italian town occupied by British troops in WWII.

Mary of Exeter – The first pigeon to deliver news of the D-Day invasion successes during WWII.

Pigeons are noble creatures found in abundance all around the world, particularly of note to be found at Buddhist, Egyptian and other major temples, also located around areas of significant beauty and architectural heritage. The morphic resonant field of the species will be connected to a vast amount of information. Because they have coexisted with humans for millennia and for important Shamanic work, the pigeon as a useful ally, guide and power animal, can bring great benefits for divination and healing.

Spiritually and divinely connected, these gentle animals can be approached with acceptance, by exhibiting the energies of trust, tranquillity and openness.

Messengers
Pigeons being utilised as messengers and as good luck totems and pets date back thousands of years.
Notable periods in our timeline are listed below:

3000BC
Thought to be the first domesticated animal, pigeons have been depicted in cave paintings, rock carvings both in the Britain Isles and all over Europe, plus carved in stone and wood as figurines created by ancient civilisations all around the world. Despite falconry being the bird of choice in early cultures, preserved examples of ceramic artworks from Mesopotamia show pigeons with royal connections.

1150BC
The first known use of pigeons originated from Egypt. Homing pigeons were also used in the Middle East for trade between nations and for announcing the arrival of dignitaries in foreign shores.

776 BC
Pigeons were used to deliver results for the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece. White doves (a cousin of the pigeon), are still released at the start of the Olympic Games today.

330BC
Early expeditions by Greeks to the British Isles (formerly known as Albion, Cymru and Hebredia), reveal Galician/Gaul and Celtic roots, of which the earliest traces of these peoples (also linked to the Picts of Scotia) are claimed to be from pre-3000BC times, with much debate about the origins of Ayan and Atlantean migrations stemming out of Britain, rather than to these lands, mostly led by these priest-class peoples with super human psychic abilities. The pigeon was said to be a carrier of information – a direct link to the divine!

The pigeon has many significant meanings for Celtic/Irish and Germanic tribal cultures. 

Celts saw a connection between the Pigeon and other dimensions. When a person died and a relative heard the Pigeon’s call, this was a sign of a peaceful passing. German artists sometimes portrayed the Goddess Nantosuelta as ruler of the Underworld with a Pigeon peering over her shoulder.

Pigeon appearances could signify many things. For example, when a Pigeon nested near your home, it would mean a peaceful environment filled with harmony. Seeing a Pigeon at a wedding acts as a positive omen of devotion. Pigeons, like Penguins, are known to retain the same partners for life – although there appears to be a strong lure for pigeons to have multiple sexual partners and from personal observations, it doesn't seem to matter what sex the pigeon is! 

Pigeons appear to be both intelligent and complex creatures – much like humans.

Circa 300 BC
The Romans used pigeons for military purposes and to carry market news. 

400-1000s
Early scripture (recreated in book form by monks), reveals the biblical story of Noah, as the bird sent to find land during the time of the deluge. The white dove returning with an olive branch signifies the emblem of peace.

1560
Mughal Ruler Akbah The Great was a great lover of pigeons for their agility and beauty, breeding a flock of some 10,000 that spent much of his time with, to escape the pressures of ruling an empire. His birds travelled wherever he went.

1600s
Pigeon droppings (saltpetre) was a valuable commodity used for fertiliser and also were the main source of gunpowder (likely another reason for Akbah's flock size and would have been a source of gunpowder dating back to ancient Chinese civilisations too). The breeding of pigeons for their nitrates-rich acidity as well as the explosive capabilities, meant pigeon breeding spread all around the planet.

1760-1820
The Rothschild dynasty was established with links from major banking hubs of Frankfurt, Vienna, Paris, Naples and London. The Rothshild family used Pigeons to send important trade pricing information and to gain an advantage in investment banking. Most famously in 1820, they achieved the greatest success, by shorting the currency under deceptive means, but with the actual defeat of Napoleon and victory over the French, the banking family were able to deceive other British traders to amass a fortune in devalued stock, by getting news of the defeat to Rothshild investors via exress carrier pigeons!

Late 1800s
Telegraph networks spread globally and the arrival of rail transportation diminished the need for pigeons.

Early 1900s
Telephone services start to become common modes of communication and with 

Post WWII 1940s-50s
Radios and motor vehicles are widely available. Pigeons were released back into the wild, returning to military bases and although neglected, have stayed in proximity to humans around the world ever since.

Forgotten Masters of Communication
The domesticated pigeons have been mostly been left to fend for themselves. After multiple generations of breeding, it's said that pigeons have lost the ability to fend for themselves in natural settings, taking up home in the dirty cities instead.

Pigeons are very protective of their home and once they have set themselves up in a location from birth, this will be their place of return and the place their offspring will return to generation after generation.

Late 20th – 21st century
Today we see pigeons in our cities, scratching around for scraps of food, unable to roost where spikes have been installed, shooed away and treated badly by city-dwellers as vermin 'rats of the sky' or dirty pests.

There are many types of pigeons which have been bred over the centuries. With more than 300 species of doves and pigeons claimed by the International Ornithological Committee. The pigeon most commonly found in urban environments is known as the rock dove, rock pigeon or common pigeon. Its binomial name is Columba livia. 

Through DNA testing, there are still pigeons to be found of the original genus that can be located roosting in craggy cliffs today.

Pigeon Symbolism
Throughout time, the pigeon has been closely related to humans and has deeper meanings for all religions, especially Christianity, Hinduism, Greek and Native Americans. Symbolising peace, serenity, courage, resilience, and fertility. Birds are often symbolised as both fighters and protectors, which the Aztec symbol above seems to encapsulate in both qualities. 

The huge presence of pigeons in both urban and natural environments is a reminder of how interconnected with the world these birds are. Aligned with the messenger Mercury, having a greater affinity with pigeons allows closer contact between us and the higher realms. Below are a few of the most significant mentions of pigeon symbolism through the ages:

Sumerians
The Sumerian goddess Ishtar was often portrayed with a pigeon, relating the bird to concepts of grace, tenderness, and elegance, as well as fertility, maternity, and femininity.

Phoenician
Astarte, a Phoenician goddess worshipped as a beautiful deity, was highly related to pigeons which were an embodiment of motherhood, fertility, love, and passion.

Egyptian
Pigeons were held in such high regard that they associated them with life, longevity, and virginity.

Greek And Roman
Both the Greeks and the Romans depicted pigeons with heavenly figures like Aphrodite, believing that pigeons brought fortune and favourable luck.

Hindu
Hindi traditions identify pigeons with Yama, the god of death, not necessarily as a bad omen but as a symbol of hope and transformation.

Chinese
In China, pigeons are related to the concept of the yin and yang energy which is a depiction of transition, life, and balance.

Islam
In Islam, pigeons are known as ‘Prophet’s birds’. Muslims also believe that if anyone serves any animal, he will be rewarded. So, the Muslims show a soft corner for animals, including pigeons. 

Native American
For the Native Americans, the pigeon has a variety of meanings. For example, in Lakota culture, the pigeon symbolises peace and harmony, which explains their presence at many spiritual ceremonies that date back to ancient times.

In Native American mythology, doves and pigeons also have a range of diverse functions. Pigeon feathers were frequently carried by war chiefs as talismans to aid them in bringing their warriors home safely because the Blackfoot tribe connected the dove with protection and a safe return from combat.

Christian
Christians consider these birds as kind and loyal messengers. They are believed to be carriers of joyful and hopeful information, as well as kindness, mercy, and peace.

Celtic
In Celtic culture, the pigeon is a symbol of good fortune. This belief comes from how the bird could fly between earth and sky, making communication possible with both realms simultaneously.

Final Fun Fact...
Pigeons have been used in multiple ways, including to smuggle cigars our of Cuba and to deliver drugs.
Spy pigeons have been used on the opposition since at least 1908 when a German pharmacist by the name of Julius Neubronner devised a way to capture photographs.

This bonkers website claims the British secret services copied Reagan era CIA surveillance techniques to devise ways of bioengineering pigeons to transmit high-def images and footage directly from pigeons' eyes. If the claims are true and the birds aren't being used for nefarious spying, maybe we'll see a return of pigeons being revered once again! 😂

ASTRAL JOURNEYS

Taking regular looks at the dreams to find meanings has been a good way for me to connect with the subconscious before. Now embarking on the Pathways Journey, I seem to be having dreams that connect with strong forces, animals, events and symbolic images of change...

Dream Diary
What follows are a few of the significant dreams experienced and remembered by taking notes immediately upon waking.

Big black barking dog: 2nd June 2025
Woke to the memory of a big barking doberman. He was going for me and I couldn’t stop him, nor did I get afraid of his barks right in my face – even when they came very close. Someone came and took the dog away. I did not react and remained in control throughout.

> What is this dream? Is it the blood vessel health issue I need to get looked at is it a marker that I am not easily frightened any more by the energies that control the dreams?

Going For A New Job: 30th May 2025
I was wearing my blue bed/yoga shorts, a vest top over a shirt and Cathy’s plastic frilly-topped ankle socks. It was my friend’s daughter, Hazel (studying psychology at Uni), employing me and the receptionist went to get her. She was worried I’d get ridiculed. 

I said I’d thrown away all my socks. It was 20 to 9 so there was time still to get clothing before I started work. We went on Oxford Street and I tried to get clothing, darting around the shops. There were multiple stairways in the cluttered shops which were very difficult to pass. I found myself in an electronics shop which also sold t-shirts and classic music albums. I got distracted from my clothes quest and bought another T-shirt. The escalator nearby openned and had no door to protect from the shaft and it was in a void, accelerating past the floor I wanted, up to the top of the skyscraper above the clouds! I looked out and felt vertigo looking over the ground so far below, imagining free-falling for a moment, brought a sense of falling. Then it was a race to get back again which created a sense of urgency. I woke feeling stressed.
> What is this dream? Accessing new powers I have not (yet) mastered and not ready for?

Break-In: 15th May
I was at a house / flat, which I owned and rented. The number of the flat was 24. There was someone walking around outside advertising a lost key. I opened the door to the neighbour’s place and went in. Checking the house for intruders and worried my bag with laptops in them had been taken. 

Someone was in the bathroom. I had that feeling of hairs on the back of the neck fear. I was about to hit them with a piece of wood but managed to stop in time. It was one of the lodgers. I went upstairs and exited into a large open shopping centre. There were many escalators that were confusing going to new floors. I was able to jump around and land on the various escalators to get on different floors. I Itried to come back. I woke feeling frustrated and like I'd lost something.

>What is this dream? Is this telling me I'm in the wrong place, or afraid of losing what I am, what I hold on to and trying to navigate the Astral realms without knowing where I'm going?

Freelance Job: 6th June 
Working at an agency as a freelancer. Had finished my work and was ready to go. The employer said I could leave and not come in again. I wasn't needed anymore.

Two girls turned up and wanted a coffee which I said I’d make for them. I can remember the faces and eyes of the girls clearly. One was Scandinavian-looking with very clear light blue eyes. She was patient waiting for the coffee but I couldn’t find the right cafetière. 

The two girls were getting ready for a works dinner party. I remember bringing the coffee to the girl who was in the bath. There was some brief nudity but no embarrassment from her.

I helped her to put on a tight dress, very futuristic-looking dress with padded seams in green. I had to do up a fiddly neck fastener which required dexterity and focus. She was sitting on my lap with her hair up and I could feel the warmth fresh from the bath and the scent of freshly washed skin. The other girl was opposite and had make-up freckles on her cheeks with green dyed cropped and wavy/curly hair. Like in dreaded or tightly curled braids. I was having trouble with the neck fastener. Next, my hands are around the girls waist and I’m in an embrace, with my head resting on her neck. Nurturing sensations, not sexual, as my hands were being held. I felt tired but also comforted. I can still feel the warmth of her neck and remember her eyes. I’ve never met these two girls before but there is a familiarity of face to a sound healer I know from one sound experience three years ago where I was mostly blindfolded the entire time.

>What is this dream? Not even sure what this dream means. I’ve been missing regular work and regular life. Not much nurture or sensual touch. Missing the innocent connection of intimacy. I can still feel warmth in my hands from the tender touch and woke with sensations of being in the embrace.

Cruise liner - 7th June
Putting myself forward as the main  events organiser responsible for decisions about which package was best for an event on a ship, I’d organised a suited ball with budget worked out to have meals and drinks and with a few options of ships, taken advice about which ship was best for the job. I was on an Island on the beach, perhaps Thailand. One ship was recommended to me as being most reliable option out of the three. It had an English crew and the guy advising was a gangster type. He seemed to know with confidence these guys were less likely to rip us off - there’d been problems with pirates.

Suddenly I’m at the ship and helping my partner get ready into a black trouser suit. My long time ago ex girlfriend was there - someone I’d not thought of in 30 years! She was being looked after by me also and assuring me I’d get things that she’d promised before and not delivered on. 

The boat was being hijacked before we’d gotten on board, but We were on a platform still tethered to the boat. I used the rope/chain and pulled the platform back towards the ship arm over arm until back at the side of the ship, shouting to the people on the about 7 million bond to return the ship and their share of the money to return the ship. I awoke. 

>What is this dream? Responsibility perhaps, with big plans, overseas, organising a major event for big money? Having the connection to a journey with others, that required the skill, ability and know how, to bring us on the journey, but not quite on the vehicle for the journey jet as I woke. Part 2 to come?!?

Coach journey - 8th June
Lots of dreams in and out of disrupted sleep. Main dream was packing bags for a coach trip and a snowboarding holiday (which I’d looked at yesterday). I was putting the bags under the coach and Cathy’s best clothes were on the outside, most likely to get dirty - as I’d already seen the dirt from the road had got on the blue leggings.
> What was this about? Travel and adventure? With concerns about the way we were preparing for the journey.

Small head on the ground – 9th June
Weird dreams that I can put down to perhaps watching a small French Bulldog with it’s ball and more connections to travel and adventure.

I dreamt of a half head, just the top of the head and the forehead, moving around the ground – as if the main body is submerged in a lower level with just the top of the head – the 7th chakra – showing iteself. A lower octave of myself, perhaps (except this head had hair).The head was being shoed by my foot to go where I wanted it to go.

The next part of the dream I was transported to a building with a room leading onto a roof that had been left empty with just wires – like what could be behind a stud wall. The outer sliding door led to a rooftop where there were security guards. I toyed with trying to mingle and be one of the guards undetected – then woke up.

At the end of the dream, my inner vision activated in a way that I had clarity of vision – a computer screen with information I struggled to read. I felt like I was having a premonition or a vision – but unable to focus on the details without popping back into real space and the eyes in darkness behind closed lids.
> > What is this dream? Fist steps towards second sight? Access to other places and worlds that are guarded? 

Balloon rescue - 11th June

I’m listening to a recovery broadcast with a scene witnessed of a hero parachuting a small boat onto the top of a snared IONOSPHERIC high altitude balloon. The person reports via radio he has successfully landed in a pool where the balloon has been snared at the top pool of water on what must be a cliff or an atmospheric reservoir. 

Moments after the mission has been received as a success. The parachute holding the boat, falls into the water and is dragged over the edge, along with the boat and it falls the very long distance 100’s of feet into another small pool below.

The boat upside down, part sunk and the body of the man are seen floating in the pool. 

> What does this dream mean? Unknown what significance this has to me. The balloon looks like the type Richard Branson used for high altitude records. I was able to replay this scene over and over. It felt like a hero’s quest going wrong. A misfortune. Perhaps it is signalling me to be cautious about taking a big risk or a journey and not being aware of the dangers. Or thinking I have accomplished something but not considered the next steps carefully enough. 

Flowers draw - 13th June

Weird dream of flowers in a drawer. Woke with just the opening and closing of draws with flowers in. 

>What does this dream mean? Perhaps revealing hidden treasures or love contained and concealed. 

Business proposition 14th June

I was selling an idea to the company where I worked. It a place where I used to work. Called ID. I wasn’t doing much work as a designer. I told everyone that I cared about the company and I had a proposition. I wanted everyone to have an opportunity to take profit share from business won. For example £20k would be earned if we knew someone who would be a good introduction and potential £200k earning - 10% would go to the one who brought it in.

Then I was teaching sound therapy to someone as part of a training program that I was running. I was explaining the sound therapy in circle of 5ths. Starting at the feet or at the root chakra, I showed how the notes corresponded to D being the balance and how we can play with these sounds. 

> What is this dream? I was writing the documents for a sound academy training proposal we are creating for a business. It was a reminder to continue and use the information from the dream to make money. Perhaps £20k is coming?!

Pelllet gum brochure - 15th June

I was working on making a brochure for a print firm.wasn’t sure of the deadline. Then I was outside with the brochure and had to go under a shelter as heavy rain came. I was queuing to get into a place with a thin ledge to navigate. Felt the sense of danger and slippery ledge. Next I’m in a room with an arcade machine where there are kids playing in a shooting game. A person at the other side of the cabinet was shooting at them when they learned out - a real game within a game?

Next I’m walking and an Indian girl I think I recognise, but she’s normally got glasses on? Stops me, gives me a hug and asks If I’m alright. I ask her the same and she says ‘look at you’ pointing to my swollen stomach. ‘I’m eating well I say’ looking down at my stomach. Then I’m leaving the arcade room ascending up a blacked out corridor. A man is descending with an old fashioned rifle pointing in front of him. I get the sense of fear, he turns and fires at my leg, which fills like the sting of a nerf gun. There’s a splattered lead pellet stuck on my inner thigh which I inspect. 

Next I’m standing between cars and a small child pops out from under the tyre well and startles me. Another girl with very pretty face but long thin androgynous body appears. There’s a discussion with her mother about her having both genitals of male and female.

>What is this dream about? It’s odd to see so many faces and I can still see these people clearly. The fear of falling, not getting a job completed in time seem to be about money and moving out. The shooting and conceded girl are likely about my health relating to where I was shot at. 

18th June

First I’m at a hotel with Bianca and a massive rain cloud with big winds coming. I get back to hotel just as rain starts and get extra umbrellas to take out to Bianca and two other girls I know. I give one umbrella to others and they drop the umbrella. I open one for Bianca. Pick up other umbrella it’s one of the massive square canopies like the one in Ibiza retreat that’s got a metal arm - the wind picks up and I’m flying high in the sky. I land on hotel roof. Bianca asks if I want livener before going. Saying getting 2 as I know that’s needed for next day. 

Next thing playing computer games with David at my mum and dad’s in living room with the old red deep wool carpet. Michael Willet comes In from News Int. he says there’s bad news. I can’t quit the scrolling shooter game and ask brother. It looks like a new phone I’m on. 

On the house phone in mum and dad’s kitchen. The Times newspaper with a screen showing ancient wall of a place in Israel or Jordan with red and orange crumbling brickwork. There’s Latin type on the image that shouldn’t be there. A mistake! Also the image has dark patches where looks dirty or bad scan. My eyes are going in and out of focus - like a sharpen filter in photoshop. I can’t recall working on it. There is a second image also with mistakes. I’m in trouble - they are pulling the ads. 

It’s looking like more text that shouldn’t be there. I offer to lower my rate to keep in work. 

 Seems to be about compromising. Taking a hit and regrouping for a future opportunity perhaps?

18 June – Maddie’s Necklace

Maddie was in my dream. I’d gotten into bed with her and was undoing her necklace. I’d been holding hands and another person came in and saw us. I was topping and tailing. Feeling tired, I slipped in and out of sleep. Maddie broke wind twice and I tried not to laugh. I helped to put the necklace back on but it had a fiddly clasp - I can remember the silver charms on the bracelet. 

Haunted house with two short people on the table. Lights not working. Josie there and getting seats out of the way for a car to park inside. 

What does this dream mean? Tricky one - am I travelling in my sleep to other people's beds? Maybe I'M the ghost...

1st July 2.30am Monks on skidos

Out on a walk with a guy doing a talk on insects, using a robot who was attached to him using a special harness. The legs of robot were stuck on extend and he had to get the robot’s brain waves cut off so the legs would bend. The robot was thought to be dead but it was not. 

I was asking about Olivia a previous girlfriend who had died from ovarian cancer (she’s alive in reality), but they didn’t want to tell me while I was with her. She was in a film I showed a friend doing the face swap VR thing. She looked beautiful. They were saying she’s taller than me. I thought I might be shrinking.

The walk was on snow and I had to race back and get my shoes as I was barefoot. There were American style cowboy police Marshall’s everywhere and I had to pass people. My friend sim was there and a guy urinating, who nearly sprayed on us as he brought something up to his mouth.

There was a bit of anger and pushing around - I was in a brief fight - worrying about my front teeth from being punched. 

There were people playing American football, the ball was thrown over a bridge into the lake where it bounced off of a stone. I needed to get it. I also had to get past the sheriffs without being stopped. The robot demonstration was moving farther away, I was going to lose them.

Now I’m racing down a mountain, following a Buddhist monk with a dog running in front on near vertical slopes, riding on a skido. The monk is free falling at points, carefully bringing the skido back to make contact with the mountain sides.

I’m on a bike. I reach a river at low tide and ask how the river bed is, I’m jumping down to get on the sea bed and pass the monk. The monk says much later, 25th Jan.

>What is this dream about?

Seems like there’s connections to mountains and water with technology and being masterful with getting to the place at the right time. The date of 25th Jan sits with plans to be in Thailand on a retreat with Buddhist monks! The date is added to my diary.

1st/2nd July 4.15am Festival space

A group of young men creating a large tent and living space, like a leather or suede dwelling about 40ft long. The guys drinking Stella at the end looking at the other pitches which are vans and selling crap. It’s a festival and we go for food - a burger van. 

Money is mentioned to extend the project. A level of engineering skill. We are planning on digging down to make more fancy living space.

> What is this dream? I've been looking at hiring a large tent for an event in late July. 

6th July spider skeleton

Woke to a focussed close up image of a dark brown translucent black spider hanging from a thread. It’s legs were curled up and it was an empty shell. That was it. 

>What does this dream mean? Empty spider’s skin is an empty house. It’s telling me to empty the house. We need to move.
